Minimising Impact

L&M 139 Somerset Wildlife Trust - total grant of £100,799

Through advisory services this project will support landowners making Entry and Higher Level Stewardship Agreement applications, thus enabling them to replace concluding Environmentally Sensitive Area Scheme agreements, and achieve a sustainable income from their land holdings.

By providing much-needed support to farm businesses, this project will improve community links and lock money into the local economy through the development and preservation of local supply chains. In terms of conservation, the project will protect and enhance wetland habitats across the area and improve connections between the area's nature reserves, enabling the vulnerable populations of rare mammal and birdlife - such as otter, bitterns, lapwing and curlew - to travel, forage and roost more effectively.
